Jimae on iPhone

On a desktop, you can double-click a Jimae HTML file to run it. Apple does not let you do the equivalent on an iPhone—apparently the cage needs a door. Our way around this is to add one Jimae app to the Home Screen while online. Once ready, it can run your saved Jimae files offline. No App Store download required.

1. Add a Jimae app to the Home Screen

In your browser while online, open one of these applications:

Choose Share, then Add to Home Screen. Enable Open as Web App, then tap Add. One installed app is enough: every Jimae app has Launch, which can run the others from their saved files. Add more Home Screen icons only if you want direct shortcuts.

2. Launch it once while online

Open the new Home Screen icon while still connected. In the app’s About box, wait for Ready offline. If it is not ready yet, leave the phone online and launch it again.

3. Open your files

Save Jimae files to the Files app. If a file arrives in Mail, use Share → Save to Files. Then launch a Jimae app from the Home Screen and choose Open or Launch to select a file. Launch can open any of these Jimae file types in its own application: Chabuto, Chomen, or Wakigaki. Launch requires a publisher-signed application file. Unsigned local development builds cannot be launched. For an older or unsigned file, use Open in a trusted signed copy of the same app to recover supported data, then Save.

When you need a connection

The first launch, installation, and cache repair need this website and an internet connection. After the app reports Ready offline, ordinary work with files does not. If iOS clears the cached app, connect and launch its Home Screen icon again.
